Active Shooter Response Training

The Active Shooter Response Training course is available in two-hour and four-hour versions. The two-hour program includes a history of active threat and mass casualty incidents, statistical analysis of motives and risk factors, preparedness for employees, pre-planning, situational awareness, response guidelines, communication, and a question-and-answer block. This course also involves a tabletop exercise and interactive video presentations.

The four-hour program expands on the two-hour version with additional components such as tabletop exercises, statistical analysis discussions, and pre-planning. It includes situational awareness, Stop the Bleed overview, developing a Standard Response Protocol, 911 procedures, first responders, evacuation procedures, sheltering in place, cover vs. concealment, medical resources and self-treatment, self-protection, practical exercise, communication, liability, and a question and answer block.

It also includes multiple interactive video presentations and two practical exercises. The four-hour program focuses more on the employee and management roles, and it is geared towards employers who are working with local resources to develop plans before an incident takes place.

Alcohol, Drug, and Cannabis Impairment in the Workplace

This is a 4-hour training course designed to provide employers with information about alcohol, drug, and cannabis use, abuse, and impairment in the workplace.

This course will cover an overview of alcohol and drug impairment, including signs and symptoms of abuse, and provide an overview of current use trends in Maine. It will also discuss strategies for responding to perceived impairment and suggest ways to document impairment and keep the workplace safe without violating employment laws.

The course is designed with Maine’s medical and recreational cannabis laws in mind, as well as the Reasonable Suspicion requirements of 49 CFR 382.603 for drug-free workplaces and safety-sensitive positions.

De-Escalation: Conflict Resolution in The Workplace

This course is designed to provide individuals with the skills and knowledge needed to resolve conflicts effectively in the workplace. The course will also explore the benefits of applying conflict resolution and de-escalation in the workplace, such as increased effectiveness, stronger support from colleagues and clients, reduced complaints and lawsuits, reduced job-related stress, and increased safety in the workplace.

By the end of the course, participants will have a solid understanding of the principles of conflict resolution and de-escalation, as well as the practical skills and knowledge needed to manage conflicts effectively in the workplace. They will be equipped to be excellent mediators, rational, and able to manage difficult personalities from a place of empathy, unpreparedness, and vulnerability.

The reason is most supervisors today are not trained for their roles as leaders/supervisors. In this course we will better prepare you for this transition, students learn easy-to-understand leadership terms with a systems analysis approach designed to build a solid foundation for outstanding leadership. Students dive into “managing self,” transitioning from someone doing the work to becoming someone responsible for the work. Students will also unpackage what self-vulnerability is and will learn where the true power of influence lives.
